Architectural CAD Instuctor

Course Title: Architectural CAD IM236

Major: These students are in the Engineering Technology associate degree major. The major also includes courses in mechanical and civil engineering technology.

Credit/Hours: 3.5 credits/72 clock hours

Dates: September 2 until November 24 (12 weeks)

Class schedule: Normally scheduled as three 2-hour classes per week

Course Description: This course focuses on architectural drafting for Engineering Technology students. Students learn the principles of light construction including types of construction, structural members, and details. Building codes and specifications are reviewed and applied. The students draw complete projects in CAD software.

Student profile: These are second-year students who have taken mechanical drafting and two CAD courses using AutoCAD. They also have taken a Building Codes course. This is their first architectural course. They have taken two algebra courses, geometry, and trigonometry.

Software used: AutoCAD 2008.

Skills required of an instructor:
  • Completed bachelor's degree
  • Familiarity with architectural design for residential and/or light commercial construction
  • Interested in teaching others, and ability to teach others
  • Reliable
  • Experienced with AutoCAD software
