Building Your Web Page Level I

This course introduces Web site design using Macromedia Dreamweaver and Web graphics editing using Macromedia Fireworks. Students will learn the basic techniques of creating Web sites from beginning to end. This will also include Site Planning and Site Architecture. Using the materials provided by the instructor, the students will go through a series of exercises to gain a better understanding of the material and software being taught.


Day 1: So you want to create a website?
- what is needed
- understanding your target audience
- ways to properly plan a site
- developing a comprehensive "site map"
- gathering your resources (where, how, what?)
- Overview of how HTML works
- Web Browsers & compatibility

Day 2: Site Design
- General guidelines for proper site design
- Designing your Navigation
- Color Theory and other elements that make your site successful
- Introduction to Macromedia Fireworks

Day 3: Web Site Graphics & Interface
- Learning various aspects of Macromedia Fireworks
- Importing your photo and scan
- How to optimize for web use
- How to develop a layout within Fireworks
- Exporting for use in Macromedia Dreamweaver

Day 4: Putting the Pieces together
- Overview Macromedia Dreamweaver
- Working with Text & Tables
- Inserting images and other resources
- Linking pages (internal and external)

Day 5: Finalizing your project
- Using Templates and CSS
- Finalizing your web pages
- Utilizing built in FTP software
- Reviewing your website
- Q&A wrap up
