Engineering Technology is the application of engineering principles and modern technology used to assist a professional engineer in a wide variety of projects. The South Hills curriculum for this program includes Drafting, Mechanical CAD, Civil CAD, Architectural CAD, Solid Modeling and CNC Programming. Besides computer training, students focus on team building, math, and development of problem-solving skills. Graduates of the program are employed with civil and architectural engineering firms, manufacturing firms, and in various governmental agencies.

Marcellus Shale Industry Full of Potential
The Marcellus shale industry has the potential to create thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania, and there will be a demand for a skilled professional work force in many communities. Engineering technicians with the fundamental knowledge of exploration and development of this resource will have an advantage in obtaining employment in this new industry.
In Pennsylvania and in surrounding states, Marcellus shale, a unit of sedimentary rock, contains natural gas reserves. The US Department of Energy estimates that the natural gas produced in Pennsylvania could supply approximately one-quarter of the annual natural gas used in the United States.
