I was scared to death thinking I’m not going to fit in or I’m not going to able
to do the work, but I realized I had to do something to make a better life for my child.
From the moment I walked into South Hills and talked to one of the admissions counselors, I felt at ease. Being out of high school for 16 years, you definitely have the fear
of "Can I compete with the younger students? Will I be able to sit in class, understand and keep up?"
South Hills definitely set that fear aside for me. The instructors go out of their way to ensure that you have
the information, understand the information, and that you are able to apply that information. After my company down-sized, I was out of a job. I had a lot of fears coming back to school;
I knew that I was going to be sitting in classrooms with students that were half my age and
I didn't know if I was going to be able to keep up with the work. One of the great things
that I found with South Hills was the instructors were very open and willing to work with you. I felt it was very important for me to receive a degree with my education.
It is very hard to find work in this area and a degree will give me an advantage. When I came to South Hills, they provided me with the hands-on experience and foundation
I needed to be able to get the job that I got at Penn State. I would never have expected
to be doing what I'm doing today based on two years of school and I'm amazed at where I am.
I love what I do and I think that the experience, the people, and the encouragement are what got me here. |
