South Hills Community News Release

STATE COLLEGE — South Hills School of Business & Technology is pleased to announce the graduation of its first class of “Droneologists” from the new Discover Drones program, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) class series for teens (grades 7 – 12). Six local teens completed the 20-hour course which included hands-on learning using flight simulator software, as well as drone building and flying experience.

Program Coordinator, Jeff Stachowski, said, “This group was the very first to graduate from the Discover Drones program. It was great getting to know the students and fun to watch them use the Flight Simulation Lab and flying and racing drones. They had a lot of fun during the program; but, at the same time, we also gave them the skills and knowledge to fly drones safely and responsibly.”

Discover Drones classes are now offered at all three South Hills campus locations: State College, Altoona, and Lewistown. South Hills also sponsors the State College Drone Racing Club and runs a variety of drone-related classes, including the popular FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot Certification classes.
