STATE COLLEGE — In March 2018, South Hills completed the second offering of our Drone "Pro-Pilot" Flight School – FAA Part 107 Drone Commercial Pilot Test Prep training class. The 18-hour, intensive training program is one facet of our overall Drone Initiative at the school. Recognizing that drone technology, more correctly called "sUAV Technology" (Small Unmanned Aerial Systems), is becoming more and more pervasive in many aspects of our society, we are creating short course offerings such as Pro Pilot to address current and future needs in our business community.
Drone technology is now being utilized in the fields of Engineering, Defense, Agriculture, Law Enforcement, Information Systems, and the Entertainment Industry. The Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, the largest nonprofit advocacy group for the drone industry, reports that, "... in the first three years of [drone] integration more than 70,000 jobs will be created in the United States with an economic impact of more than $13.6 billion. This benefit will grow through 2025 when we foresee more than 100,000 jobs created and economic impact of $82 billion." Download and read the full report here .
In addition to the Pro-Pilot class, South Hills is offering Drones For Teens classes and camps for youth in the 7th through 12th grades. We are also considering fly-for-fun classes and a Commercial Photography/Videography course.
