South Hills Community News Release
Geisinger Health Systems Business Supervisor and South Hills alumna, Lori Eckley, gave the students a behind-the-scenes look at their medical records system and gave insights into the day-to-day duties that the students can expect to perform once they graduate. Eckley also talked about the team environment at Geisinger and gave examples of how physicians, nurses, technicians, and administrative staff members all work together to provide patient care.
Abby Menna, Clinic Supervisor for both the Scenery Park and Gray’s Woods facilities, and Ryan Ketner, Clinical Team Leader, taught students about Geisinger’s history and discussed the organization’s mission to be a leader in the ever-changing field healthcare. The students also learned about job opportunities at Geisinger and got information about the hiring and interviewing processes.
Ellen Spinelli, South Hills Career Services Coordinator, added, “As a career school, we feel it’s important to offer tour opportunities to our students to give them exposure to the kinds of businesses and employment opportunities that exist in our area. They also get a chance to meet and learn from professionals already working in the field.”
Kay Strigle, HIT Program Coordinator said, “The tour provided our first- and second-year students with a great opportunity to learn about Geisinger and their medical records systems and the important role HIT professionals play within healthcare organizations. Our goal is to help our students get a realistic view of the jobs they can apply for once they’ve completed their education.”
